About Us

Datura Trading Co. is an online-only occult & spiritual boutique, offering handmade items to inspire the mind and delight the spirit.

We are excited to offer unique wooden oracles and home decor, as well as our books, art, crystals, and hand-blended products such as oils, candles, and baths. We also offer magical services such as custom sigils and candle spells ("setting lights") as well as classes via our website, Modern Witch University. 

Our History... 

We were established in 1989 as a brick-and-mortar store in Walnut Creek, California to serve the diverse spiritual needs of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Originally named “Dolphin Dream” for a visionary experience had by the first owners Jean & June, we soon became a fixture in the Walnut Creek downtown, offering something unique to the East Bay.

Not just a retail store, “The Dream” set out to be a place in which the various spiritual communities could convene to find and share information, tools, and services that cater specifically to the needs of both the new spiritual seeker as well as the lifelong practitioner. Practitioners offered their services in the back rooms where one could find massage, counseling, astrology, meditation, and more. 

In 1996 Jean and June sold the store to Sue, who expanded the inventory of art & products, while reducing the stock of books. She sold it in late 2007 to Chas Bogan and Storm Faerywolf, returning the shop to being a gay-owned and operated business.

In the spring of 2008 we changed our name to “The Mystic Dream” to better reflect the updated vision as we moved into the future.

Storm had been a member of “the Dream Team” with the original owners since 1994 and was later promoted by Sue to store manager. Along with his husband Chas, they welcomed Devin Hunter as a full partner in 2017.

In March of 2020, due to COVID-19, we made the decision to permanently close the doors of our physical location after more than thirty years serving the public. Shortly after, Mat Auryn joined the team and we decided to make a fresh start and collectively rebrand as Datura Trading Co., offering our art, books, products, and services exclusively online.

While the forms and styles may have changed, the vision remains —at its core— the same: We are here to inspire the mind and delight the spirit, offering a little bit of magic and even whimsey by way of art, decor, spiritual tools, and lifestyle.
