For the October 2012 issue of Modern Witch Magazine, Carnivalia’s lead artist Chas Bogan was asked to write an article addressing how best to work with a Ouija board, which was titled Playing With Dead Things. Inspired by this process, the Modern Witch talkingboard was designed. Originally designed in this eerie green color, which we call Moss, this design also became available in Ghost (white), Orchid (purple), and recently became available in etched wood. This is a beautiful design, especially suited to the modern witch, as it features a pentagram, as well as astrological signs.

This talkingboard, debuted at the 2012 New Orleans Witches Ball, where it was featured in an auction, the proceeds from which went toward helping homeless street dogs.

“I wanted the board to have depth to it, to be something that seemed to pull you into it. For this I layered colors and textures until my text appeared to float, the letters, moon phases and astrological symbols occupying different planes. I look at it and think of things floating in a swamp, and feel like I am falling into clouds of green ectoplasm.” -Chas Bogan

This is a quality artisan product, and all elements, from its unique design to its planchette, are handcrafted at Carnivalia’s studio.

Its board measures nineteen by thirteen inches. The printed image is adhered to a quarter inch slab of hardboard, and painted black on the back and sides. The image is protected by layers of clear varnish, creating a smooth finish that is ideal for use with the planchette, and will protect your board as your relationship to this heirloom matures.
